Florida State Senator Shevrin Jones and Vice Mayor of Miami Gardens Robert L. Stephens III joined residents, local leaders, and community partners for a day of fitness activities, health screenings, and a neighborhood walking audit as part of UHP’s 15th anniversary celebration series. MIAMI GARDENS, FL, August 1, 2026: Urban Health Partnerships (UHP) hosted Get Moving Miami Gardens, a free, community-centered health and wellness event, on Saturday, August 1, 2026, at Rolling Oaks Park (1317 NW 183rd St, Miami Gardens, FL 33169). Up to 150 residents, including families, seniors, youth, and local leaders, took part in a morning of movement, food access, and preventive health screenings.
Residents received free groceries, including pantry staples such as bread, macaroni, and beans, alongside no-cost health screenings for conditions including diabetes and heart disease, provided on-site by Quest Diagnostics with support from the Quest Diagnostics Foundation. The event also featured community yoga, a resource fair, food distribution in partnership with Farm Share and Joshua’s Heart Foundation, and family-friendly activities including a DJ and games.
A central feature of the day was a neighborhood walking audit, in which residents, elected officials, and community stakeholders walked local streets together to evaluate safety and accessibility and identify opportunities for improvement, including new green trails and additional community space. Findings from the walking audit are expected to inform recommendations to the City of Miami Gardens.
“So what’s great about this event is that we have food, we have services, all of these things that are needed right now, but we also have a walking audit,” said Andrea Iglesias, CEO and Executive Director of Urban Health Partnerships, describing how the audit will help identify infrastructure improvements and advocate for new community green space.
The event marked 15 years of UHP’s work across South Florida and 13 years of partnership with Miami Gardens residents, local leaders, and community partners to improve health, walkability, and quality of life in the community.
